Identity Series

Who am I?

This question will haunt the over worked person in America. It could be for lack of education, confidence or maturity, but, one thing is for sure, every adult will eventually wrestle with these identity issues.

What are spiritual gifts?

Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 lists the spiritual gifts as:

  • Prophecy
  • Pastor
  • Teaching
  • Wisdom
  • Knowledge
  • Exhortation
  • Discerning of Spirits
  • Giving
  • Helps Mercy
  • Missionary
  • Evangelist
  • Hospitality
  • Faith
  • Leadership
  • Administration
  • Miracles
  • Healing
  • Tongues
  • Interpretation
  • Voluntary Poverty
  • Celibacy
  • Intercession
  • Exorcism
  • Service

Why are they important to finding purpose?

When you know who you are and what gifts you have to offer the world, you will know purpose. That is the mission God put in your soul before He formed you in your mother's womb. Jeremiah 29:11-13"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to give you a hope and a future.  Then you will call on me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

Does it all really matter?

Yes, it does! The reason being your gifts to do belong to you. You are a steward of them.

Matthew 25:14-30, The Parable of the Talents. These are tools for you to be able to accomplish the goals God sets out for you. They have an exponential return on them and they are for the good of men.
Galatians 6:7-8 “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.  and the glory of God."

So, you can see, these things are of a heavenly and eternal nature. God desires you to have resources to accomplish what He has for you and those are good and powerful tools to serve your fellow humanity.

Knowing who you are provides for satisfaction in your career and relationships as well as peace in your heart.

Stay tuned as we dive deeper into the meaning of each gift, what kind of personalities are common to them, and what insight Bible gives to teach us about them.
